Custom Fields Mapping - Product data Enrichment
1. What Are Custom Fields?
Custom Fields is a feature within the BrandsGateway App that allows you to select and map additional product data fields to be included during your product import. These fields contain supplementary product information — such as material, color, brand, or watch-specific attributes — that goes beyond the standard product details like title, description, and price.
Custom Fields let you enrich your store's product listings with detailed attributes that vendors supply, helping you present more complete and accurate product information to your customers.

2. Why Are Custom Fields Important?
Importing products from a dropshipping supplier often means receiving a wide variety of product attributes that are not part of the standard product schema. Custom Fields bridge this gap by allowing you to:
• Enrich your product listings with detailed information (e.g., material composition, brand, gender, season, color pattern).
• Improve customer experience by providing shoppers with the additional details they need to make purchasing decisions.
• Enhance SEO and discoverability by including more relevant product metadata in your store.
• Support platform-specific features — for example, Shopify Metafields allow advanced filtering and display options on storefront themes.
• Ensure compliance with marketplace standards, particularly for categories like fashion, watches, and footwear that often require specific attribute fields.
3. Supported Platforms
Custom Fields are supported across the following e-commerce platforms when importing products through:
• Shopify
• WooCommerce
Each platform handles custom field data differently (e.g., Shopify stores them as Metafields), but BrandsGateway App manages the mapping so the correct data ends up in the right place on your store.
4. Where to Find Custom Fields
Custom Fields can be accessed from the Shopwoo settings panel. Follow these steps to navigate to the feature:
- Navigate to Shopwoo
- Click on Settings in the left-hand navigation menu.
- In Settings, click on Custom Fields.
The Custom Field Mapping page will open. From here, you can view existing mappings, add new ones, or reset your mapping configuration.

5. Understanding the Two Field Levels
When adding a custom field mapping, you must first select the level at which the field applies:
5.1 Product Level
Product-level custom fields apply to the product as a whole. These are attributes that describe the general product and do not vary from one variant to another. The majority of available custom fields operate at the product level.
5.2 Product Variant Level
Product variant-level custom fields apply to individual variants of a product (e.g., a specific size or color combination). Currently, two fields operate at the variant level:
• Global Unique ID (EAN)
• MPN (Manufacturer Part Number)

7. How Custom Field Mapping Works
Custom Field Mapping is the process of connecting a BrandsGateway (dropshipper) product field to a corresponding field in your e-commerce store (retailer). This ensures that when products are imported or synced, the right data lands in the right place.
Step 1: Go to Custom Fields
Navigate to Settings > Custom Fields in your Shopwoo dashboard.
Step 2: Click "Add Mapping"
Click the Add Mapping button at the bottom of the mapping table. A new mapping row will appear.

Step 3: Select the Field Type (Product or Variant)
In the Type column, select whether the field applies at the Product level or the Product Variant level.
• Product — for general product attributes (e.g., Brand, Color, Material).
• Product Variant — for variant-specific identifiers (EAN, MPN).

Step 4: Select the Dropshipper Field
In the Dropshipper Field column, choose the BrandsGateway source field you want to map from the dropdown list. This is the field that contains the data on the supplier's side.

Step 5: Configure the Retailer Custom Field (Platform-Specific)
Depending on your connected platform, you will see additional fields to fill in:
• Shopify: The system automatically sets a fixed Namespace (shopwoo), Key, and Display Name for Shopify Metafields. These cannot be edited once saved.
• WooCommerce & BigCommerce: Enter the custom field name or attribute key as it should appear in your store.

Step 6: Save Your Mapping
After configuring all desired field mappings, click the Save button to apply the changes. Your custom field mappings will now be applied to all future product imports and syncs.

8. Important Notes and Rules
Please keep the following points in mind when working with Custom Fields:
• Shopify Metafield mappings are created under the fixed shopwoo namespace. The namespace, key, and display name are set automatically and cannot be changed after saving.
• To modify a saved Shopify metafield mapping, you must first remove the existing mapping. Note that removing a Shopify mapping will delete the Shopify metafield definition and all existing values associated with it after the next product sync.
• Not all fields are populated for all vendors. Always verify which fields your specific vendor supplies before mapping them.
• The Reset Mapping button does not delete previously saved mappings. It only resets and updates the mappings currently being configured.
• Custom field data is synced during product import and subsequent product sync operations.
9. Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What happens if a vendor does not provide data for a mapped field?
A: If a vendor does not supply data for a mapped field, that field will simply be empty for products from that vendor. No error will occur; the field will just not be populated.
Q: Do custom field mappings apply retroactively to already-imported products?
A: Custom field mappings apply on the next product import. Additionally, when you click Save in the Custom Field Mappings table, an automatic update is triggered for all products. For this reason, make sure to configure all mappings first, and then click Save to update your products.
Q: Can I add custom fields that are not in the list?
A: The available fields in the Dropshipper Field dropdown are limited to the data that BrandsGateway provides. You cannot add custom fields that are outside this list. For additional data needs, contact BrandsGateway’s support.
