How to create Categories in WooCommerce

Before starting the product import process, we recommend creating your product categories in WooCommerce. This ensures that once you import products, they will be assigned to the correct categories in your store.

Step 1: Navigate to Categories

From your WordPress Dashboard:

Products → Categories

Step 2: Create a Parent Category

On the left-hand side, you will see the Add New Category section.

Fill in:

  • Name (e.g., Bags)
  • Slug (optional – will generate automatically if left empty)
  • Parent Category → Leave as None (for parent categories)

Click Add New Category.

Repeat the same process for another parent category (e.g., Shoes).

In this example, we created two parent categories:

  • Bags
  • Shoes

Step 3: (Optional) Create Subcategories

If needed, you can create subcategories such as:

  • Bags → Men
  • Bags → Women
  • Shoes → Men
  • Shoes → Women

To do this:

  • Enter the category name
  • Select the appropriate Parent Category
  • Click Add New Category

Once your categories are created, you can proceed to:

BrandsGateway → Settings → Category Mapping

There, you will connect our Retailer Categories to your newly created WooCommerce categories.
